Somewhere in Texas …
Black Flag opened for Venom and someone in their crew gave a blank cassette to the sound guy to record the show. It was edited down to just Cronos’ between song stage banter and later, dubbed and given to friends of the band. OMG Hysterical!
This is so epic I have to share this on the blog. This band “Tinariwen” is a band of Tuareg-Berber musicians from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali. The band was formed around 1979 in refugee camps in Libya but returned to Mali after a cease-fire in the 1990s. Anyhow some serious drama unfolded in the members lives and their nomadic Saharan culture just screams true rock n roll. On tour in the desert…how frakin’ cool is that!
I find their music soothing, emotive and entrancing. It draws me to a place inside that brings tears to my eyes from the homeward feeling…even though I have no clue what they are saying. Check out the video, it’s from their “Desert Sessions”. They tour the states and around the world so when they come to your town make sure to check them out if you dig the sound.
Tune in Tuesday 2/21/2012 at 6pm on WRFG 89.3 in Atlanta, GA for our radio appearance on the Lambda Radio Report!
