On Friday June 22nd 2012, Fire trucks from Austin FD Engine Company One arrived at Elysium music venue 705 Red River St., Austin, TX to extinguish an electrical fire started during Atlanta band The Sexual Side Effects’ performance. The fire started as the as the band was playing, and originated from transgender singer/guitarist Amber Taylor’s guitar amp. The smoke and sparks from the fire cleared the venue and the fire department cleared the club and shut down one block of Red River Street until the electrical issue could be resolved. No one was injured and the fire was successfully extinguished.
Club booker and promoter Andrew Madinc wasn’t expecting such an incendiary performance at first. “I can’t believe the amp just caught on fire, as if they were The Who or something”.
Fresh from their win of Xfinity/Comcast Video for the Year at the 2012 Georgia Music Award, the Sexual Side Effects are nationally known for their energetic live performances including Amber’s frenetic and epileptic guitar solos, which frequently leave her bloody and bruised. The band joined up with traveling Rock N Roll side-show “The Revolution Circus”, which is hosted by Kansas City based musician Mercury Mad, and joined by The Apocalypse Theater, Illusions Fate, Lucid Dementia and Dolls From The Crypt. The band has been touring through Texas all leading up to their Houston Pride festival performance in front of 60,000 people.
The SSE will be Playing with “Girl In A Coma” at the EARL in Atlanta, GA on Tuesday July 10th.
